Congress calls for 'Lalbazar Gherao' on Aug 5 against deteriorating law and order
The West Bengal Pradesh Congress has called for a major protest march to gherao 'Lalbazar', the Kolkata Police headquarters, on August 5, 2026. Under the leadership of Pradesh Congress President Shubhankar Sarkar, the party has finalized the roadmap for this 'Lalbazar Chalo' campaign. The demonstration aims to highlight deteriorating law and order, public security concerns, and the alleged partisan role of the state police.
Congress leadership accused the police administration of failing to maintain law and order and working under the direct influence of the ruling party. The party alleged that in recent incidents, law enforcement agencies ignored complaints from ordinary citizens instead of conducting fair and impartial investigations. The upcoming rally is structured as a direct challenge to the state police's operational bias and negligence toward citizen safety.
The 'Lalbazar Chalo' march is expected to draw party workers and supporters from across the state to demand administrative accountability and police neutrality. Congress leaders emphasized that public trust in state security mechanisms has eroded significantly, necessitating a large-scale public movement. The party plans to mobilize extensive cadres to pressure the police department into addressing growing lawlessness effectively.
